The Maybourne Beverly Hills
This January, my husband and I spent one night at The Maybourne Beverly Hills on our way to Australia. We stayed there for a few days last year, and the experience was so enjoyable that we decided to visit again while making our way west. I’ve stayed at several other hotels in the area, including the Hotel Bel-Air, the Four Seasons, and the Waldorf Astoria, but The Maybourne is one of my favorites, combining the perfect location with beautiful interiors and good service.
Tip— LAX is still under construction. It is set to open a tram system to streamline operations, but getting to the rental car area currently is very challenging. I recommend skipping the rental car and instead using Uber. We took an Uber, and it was an easy 40-minute ride.
The Maybourne, formerly The Montage, is located in the heart of Beverly Hills. The location is perfect, with plenty of shops and restaurants—like Erewhon, Sugarfish, and Spago—located within a few minutes walk.
Design-wise, it features a beautiful, neutral palette of cream tones and fabrics, but the real highlight of the space is the thoughtfully curated art on display: paintings, sculptures, and mixed-media pieces are sprinkled throughout the property. They provide unexpected pops of color that brighten the common areas and restaurants, giving the hotel a lively and inviting atmosphere. One of my favorite sculptors, Annie Morris, has a stunning piece of colorful stacked spheres in the lobby.
Our room was on the third floor, which is also where the gym and spa are located. We were in a deluxe room on our first stay and a terrace room on our second; the rooms were essentially the same, except for the terrace in the latter. Both were nicely appointed, and the only note I have is regarding the bathrooms: they are the original bathrooms from the Montage, so they do not feel quite as upgraded as the rest of the hotel. That being said, they were clean and functional!
Tip— Something worth noting is that to reach some of the rooms on the third floor, you have to walk down an outdoor hallway. I could see this being really inconvenient if it is raining or colder out.
Tip— I’ve heard that the suites are even prettier than the rooms, and I recommend looking into their availability while booking.
Dante, The Maybourne’s restaurant, is located upstairs across from the pool. It serves brunch to dinner (and is responsible for the pool menu). The interior features beautiful, dark navy banquettes, but I recommend snagging one of the few tables available on the balcony if the weather is nice. The place has a lively LA vibe, especially in the evenings, so I recommend going for dinner or a late-night drink. I recommend making reservations for dinner at Dante, but they did manage to fit us in without a reservation later in the evening.
The pool has a cool vibe, featuring a large Joel Mesler piece at the end. Being able to order from Dante was wonderful, as the cuisine was definitely higher end than your typical pool food. The Terrace Restaurant, where we ate breakfast each day, has both an outdoor area and a chic, indoor space. Located just outside the lobby, it has a cool, bright, and colorful vibe. I thought the breakfast was delicious, and I adored the light blue banquettes.
The gym at The Maybourne is one of my all-time favorite hotel gyms. Open twenty-four hours a day, it is a nice size, and all the equipment is spread out enough that it never feels crowded. They have classic cardio machines, like bikes and treadmills, and strength training equipment. Designed by PENT, I loved the Bosu and medicine balls covered in beautiful caramel leather, as well as the kettlebells and weights made of natural American walnut and stainless steel. These details gave the gym a luxurious, elevated feel. It also has a Pilates machine, which seems to be a trend I’m seeing more often in hotel gyms these days.
I would happily stay at The Maybourne again. The staff was friendly and efficient, with the concierge getting back to us very quickly whenever we reached out. I recommend the hotel to any guest: couples, girls trips, and families with young kids. The pool is wonderful and caters to everyone, and they are dog-friendly as well!
